Upcoming Releases
New from Juxta Media for June 2008 release.

This collection of short fiction is woven together by the theme that creation is driven by a pre-existing love of the creature and of the very act of creation itself.

The stories in this volume were originally published in the United States and in the United Kingdom in such magazines ans Analog Science Fiction, Amazing Stories, Century and Interzone.

All the stories are speculative in nature, and reange from science fiction to fantasy to magic realism. They are bound tegether by the fact that they contain references to the Faith of Bahá'u'lláh in the form of inspiration, characters, and themes.

Taminy

Book Two in the trilogy

TAMINY -- One hundred years after she was called to the sea to become one with her god, Taminy is called to assume her next task -- to become the very voice of her god on Earth.

The Critics said: "Bohnhoff ... leisurely weaves the characters' desires, action and doubts into a tapestry that examines prejudices against women ... and creates an entertaining story." - Starlog

"Strong feminist and education messages transcend the genre." - KLIATT

"I recommend this one to readers who enjoy Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover or David Edding's Elenium series." -- M.R. Hildebrand, ConNotations Vol. 3, # 3

"If The Meri is about the liberating and empowering aspects of Divine love, Taminy is about its sometimes fearsome human consequences. They make a good pair, richer together than either would be alone. ...I will be keeping an eye out for the third." - Science Fiction Review Searchable Database

The Crystal Rose

Book Three in the trilogy

THE CRYSTAL ROSE --The Meri, one of the two primary ruling forces in Caraid-land, changes the destiny of her people forever when she chooses to release Taminy, a former vessel of the Meri who was prosecuted as a witch.

The Critics said: "An author whose imaginative insights shine with a special beauty, Ms. Bohnhoff is becoming one of the great names in fantasy." - Rave Reviews (Romantic Times)

ANTHOLOGIES

BEST OF JIM BAEN'S UNIVERSE 2006 BEST OF JIM BAEN'S UNIVERSE 2006, from Baen includes one of my favorite fantasy tales: The Nature of Things.

The anthology was released in the summer of 2007. Cover shot to come.

INFINITE SPACE, INFINITE GOD, Twilight Times Books, edited by Karina Fabian.

eBook is now available -- print copies will be out in August 2007.

Winner of the EPPIE AWARD.

This features A Cruel and Unusual Punishment first published in Interzone.

SEX CRIME, Circlet Press, edited by Cecilia Tan

I have no idea how it happened, but Cecilia chose As the Angels in Heaven, a novelette originally published in ANALOG. The story drew one amusing comment from an Analog reader: "I'm not sure I liked it," he said, "but I was still thinking about it two weeks later. It's erotic in a wholesome sort of way."

HOBBITS, HALFLINGS, WARROWS, AND WEEFOLK, Warner-Questar, edited by Byron Priess.

This anthology published my short story Hobbits, which originally appeared in ANALOG.

SHORT FICTION

Keep an eye out for my short fiction. In addition to the collection of my previously published stories from Juxta Media, I have a new story -- "Junkie" -- coming out in a future edition of Analog.

"Seraphim" was in the Winter 2008 issue of HELIX, a terrific new eZine edited by William Sanders. The story is an alternate history look at some of the earliest UFO sightings in the US. You can still read "Seraphim" -- just go to the HelixSF site and check out the Archives link.

I should note that my Paradox story, "O, Pioneer", was nominated for the Sidewise award for alternate history. I lost to Gardner Dozois, for Pete's sake -- no shame in that.

This is the artwork from "The Nature of Things", one of my most favorite stories. "Nature" was published in the December 2006 online issue of Jim Baen's Universe and is still available from the site: www.baens-universe.com. It's also in the Baen anthology: Best of Jim Baen's Universe 2006.

Just finished it. Gorgeous build-up to one of the most massively funny and appropriate puns that ever graced the end of a story. Thanks! -- Geoffrey Kidd

ANALOG cover

One of my favorite inventions was the character Rhys Llewllyn, who appeared in a series of stories in ANALOG science fiction magazine over a period of several years. Rhys stories included:

  • SHAMAN
  • SQUATTER'S RIGHTS (a serialized novel-length piece)
  • MARSHMALLOW
  • THE SECRET LIFE OF GODS

I would love to do a collection of Rhys stories...

MOST RECENTLY APPEARING IN ANALOG: "Willies" - July/August 2006

INTERZONE

It is supposedly more than passing strange that I have been published in both ANALOG and INTERZONE, the eclectic British speculative fiction magazine. Still, it's Interzone that's published most of the fiction that is closest to my heart. These stories -- most of which defy categorization -- include:

  • DOCTOR DODGE #125, Nov 97
  • SILVER LINING #130, Apr 98
  • WHO HAVE NO EYES #134, Aug 98
  • BEGGARS MIGHT RIGHT #137, Nov 98
  • THE WHITE DOG #142, Apr 99
  • A CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT, Dec 02

One of my favorite -- and slightly autobiographical -- is A Hole in Her Head, a tale about a migraine sufferer whose benign brain tumor takes her on a journey into the Twilight Zone. The story was published in REALMS OF FANTASY, with the wonderful interior art at left.

You can download "pretty" copies of a number of my short stories from Authorsden.
